Blue Highway - Since bursting on the scene in the late-‘90s, Blue Highway has all but dominated the bluegrass charts. Collectively, the band has earned 25 IBMA Awards, six SPBGMA Awards, one Dove Award, and two Grammy nominations. Guitarist Tim Stafford received honors as 2015 SPBGMA “Guitar Player of the Year” and 2014 IBMA “Songwriter of the Year.” Meanwhile, young dobro phenom Gaven Largent was nominated as 2016 SPBGMA’s “Dobro Player of the Year.” Largent replaced founding member Rob Ickes, who took home an unprecedented 15 Dobro “Performer of the Year Awards” and was the most awarded Instrumentalist in the history of IBMA.  In 2014, Blue Highway racked up the most radio airplay of any Bluegrass Artist thanks to its CD, “The Game” which stayed at No. 1 for seven consecutive months on the Bluegrass Unlimited Album Chart. Blue Highway was named “Vocal Broup of the Year” at the 2012 IBMA awards. 

Rhiannon Giddens - Best known as the powerhouse lead singer of The Carolina Chocolate Drops, Rhiannon Giddens is quickly staking out her territory as a show-stopping solo artist. It was none other than famed producer T Bone Burnett who - after hearing her at the 2013 concert “Another Day, Another Time” which appropriately celebrated the early ‘60s folk revival - asked Giddens if she was ready to make her first solo effort. In Burnett’s words:  “It was clear the first time I heard her at rehearsal that Rhiannon is next in a long line of singers that includes Marian Anderson, Ethel Waters, Rosetta Tharp, Odetta, Mahalia Jackson, Nina Simone,” Burnett says. “We need that person in our culture. She is, in fact, that person in our culture.” Her solo debut on the prestigious Nonesuch label is titled “Tomorrow is my Turn.”  

Dori Freeman - Raised in Southwest Virginia among a family of musicians, 24-year-old Dori Freeman grew up surrounded by bluegrass, old-time, folk and blues. As she came into her own, her influences grew to include Peggy Lee, The Louvin Brothers, The Shins, Rufus Wainwright, and Father John Misty. Her self-titled studio debut was produced by Teddy Thompson, who also added guitar and harmonies. 

Flatt Lonesome - In just five years, bluegrass phenoms Flatt Lonesome have already made an indelible mark on the highly competitive bluegrass scene. The group debuted in 2011 as a contestant in SPBGMA’s prestigious band competition - and returned the next year to win first place. In 2014, Flatt Lonesome was named “Emerging Artist of the Year by the IBMA.” With its members just in their mid-20s, the band was nominated for IBMA’s 2015 “Vocal Group of the Year” and “Album of the Year.” The groups sophomore release, “Too,” spawned 10 charting singles across five major bluegrass and gospel charts and debuted at #5 on Billboard. The group’s current release is titled “Runaway Train.”

The Davis & Elkins College Appalachian Ensemble, a student performance group led by String Band Director Emily Miller and Dance Director Emily Oleson, is dedicated to bringing live traditional music and dance to audiences in West Virginia and beyond. Composed entirely of students attending D&E, the group features an acoustic string band (fiddle, banjo, guitar, mandolin and bass) and a team of dancers with a diverse range of expertise. The group focuses on the intersections of different American vernacular forms and their roots, ranging from old-time music and flatfooting to jazz music and tap dance, to Irish sean nós dance, body percussion and numerous traditional American styles of harmony singing. The performances include a variety of regional dance styles, contemporary choreography, and a selection of traditional songs and tunes.​
